The mandate:

As part of a previous mandate with the Société de la Vallée de l’aluminium (SVA), Innovitech explored the potential for establishing an industrial symbiosis for the aluminum sector in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. This approach, which involves collaboration and cooperation between companies within the same or different sectors, aims to maximize resource efficiency and reduce costs.

The results :

To analyze this potential, Innovitech undertook the following actions:

  • Diagnosis of each partner’s potential capabilities: Assessed the readiness and capabilities of each partner.
  • Literature review and study of inspiring models: Examined existing models of industrial symbiosis.
  • Benchmarking of five key local sctors: Identified and evaluated essential local players.
  • Assessment and meetings with 15 potential project partners: Engaged with potential stakeholders.

Evaluated gains by Innovitech:

Economic:

  • Access to lower-cost recycled raw materials.
  • Reduction in landfill costs.
  • Valorization of residual materials.
  • Exploitation of economies of scale (supply, training, etc.).

Business development:

  • Increased company visibility.
  • Opportunities to meet partners or suppliers through synergies and beyond.

Social:

  • Contribution to the local economy.
  • Improvement of brand image and strengthening of corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy.

Environmental:

  • Reduction in landfill use and residual materials.
  • Decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Preservation of natural resources for the community.
