With over 40 years of experience in urban planning, Sylvain Ducas has dedicated his career to shaping urban and metropolitan development in Quebec. Initially a consultant for nearly a decade, he joined the City of Montreal in 1987, where he held key roles in urban planning and project management for over 30 years. From 2013 to 2018, he served as Director of Urban Planning for the City, a strategic role in which he led major initiatives that shaped the Montreal territory.
A visionary and unifying leader, Sylvain led several multidisciplinary teams responsible for major urban projects, including the development of the MIL campus. He also oversaw the creation of official planning documents, urban plans, development schemes, and urban policies, that have guided the transformation of contemporary Montreal.
Since 2018, he has continued his commitment as a strategic advisor in Quebec and internationally, working with public institutions and private firms. His work primarily focuses on metropolitan planning, sustainable mobility, and urban project management. Since 2019, he has notably been supporting the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) in the design of major public transit plans and projects for the Greater Montreal area.
Renowned for his deep expertise, strategic insight, and ability to rally stakeholders around a shared vision, Sylvain is an esteemed member of the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec (OUQ) and a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP). His lasting contribution to urban development makes him a key figure in his field.
